Karl Artur Vilhelm Moberg (1898 – 1973) was a very important Swedish journalist, author, playwright, historian, and debater. His lengthy literary career is associated with his four-book series The Emigrants. Published between 1949 and 1959/1961, these deal with the 19th century Swedish emigration from Småland--where Moberg was born--to Chisago County, Minnesota, in the United States.

The Emigrants became the subject of two movie adaptations (starring Max von Sydow and Liv Ullmann) and a musical. His literary portrayal of the Swedish-American immigrant experience is considered comparable to O.E. Rolvaag's work depicting that of Norwegian-American immigrants.
