A Delightful Classic of Children's Literature, well illustrated in a handsome binding!
Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924) was the highly praised British-American author of three famous children's classics: Little Lord Fauntleroy (1885-86), A Little Princess (1905), and A Secret Garden (1911).
Little Lord Fauntleroy was first serialized in the St. Nicholas Magazine between November, 1885 and October, 1886; first book edition, 1886. Adoring mothers dressed their boys in fancy clothing like the handsome Little Lord! The book was adapted into several stage productions (one by Frances Burnett). There were two early film versions: one in 1921; then the classic film by director David O. Selznick starring Freddie Bartholomew, Dolores Barrymore, and Mickey Rooney in 1936.
Handsome copy in a decorative binding with light wear. TIght and internally unmarked copy. Plates are clean and unfoxed. Small corner "tea"-stain to lower right corner from p.249 hrough ads. Previous owner's name lightly written on front pastedown.
