Sara Paretsky (born 1947), an American author of detective fiction, is best known for her novels based on the female private investigator, V.I. Warshawski. Paretsky created her as a female response to hard-boiled detectives such as Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe. In 1991 the film "V.I. Warshawski" was released starring Kathleen Turner.
