Vladimir Nilsen (1906 - 1938) was a Soviet camera operator, cinematographer, expert on camera work and associated electronics, and writer. He is probably best known for this important early study of cinematography. For his excellent work, Nilsen was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.

Solid, clean copy. Cloth has moderate wear. Paper is lightly age-toned with very occasional spots. Plates are clean. Endpapers more age-toned. Bookstore label pasted to lower portion of title page. Label has owner's name in ink; same name on front pastedown. Mylar added.

Book elaborates and illustrates cinematic theories associated with Sergei Mikhailovich Eisenstein (1898 – 1948), a Soviet film director and film theorist, a pioneer in the theory and practice of montage. He is noted in particular for his silent films Strike (1925), Battleship Potemkin (1925) and October (1928), which are also mentioned in this work.
