Gilbert Abbott à Beckett (1811 – 1856) was an English humorist.He edited the comic paper Figaro in London and was one of the original staff of Punch and a contributor until his death.

He is perhaps best known as the author of The Comic History of England (1847–48), The Comic History of Rome (1852) and a Comic Blackstone (1846).

George Cruikshank (1792 – 1878) was a prominent British caricaturist and book illustrator, praised as the "modern Hogarth" during his life. His remembered for his always dynamic, telling, and frequently humorous book illustrations... among them many for then friend Charles Dickens.

Very Giftable! Tight, clean copy with unfoxed illustrations. Slight wear to the attractive cloth which retains quite bright gilt lettering.
