Lono Waiwaiole was born in San Francisco. He is half Hawaiian, a quarter Italian and a quarter something his family refers to as "Pennsylvania Dutch." Lono teaches social studies and English in Portland, Oregon. He won an Anthony Award for Best First Novel (2004) with Wiley's Lament.
