Paretsky created her as a female response to hard-boiled detectives such as Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe. In 1991 the film "V.I. Warshawski" was released starring Kathleen Turner.

Author's 3rd novel and 3rd V.I. Warshawski novel. SUPERIOR COPY INSCRIBED "Happy Reading" by the Author for the Library Council of Chicago in 1988 [perhaps for a fund-raiser?]. Dust jacket is clean and bright though has a bit of wear and a clean tear at the rear cover's lower corner.
