Janet Adam Smith OBE (1905 – 1999) was a writer, editor, anthologist, comic versifier, literary journalist and champion of Scottish literature. Among works for children, she also edited the Faber Book of Children's Verse for Faber & Faber (1953); and the Looking Glass Book of Verse for Random House (1959).
Among several authors and books, Smith treats chapbooks, Wiliam Blake, Beatrix Potter and Kate Greenaway, Cruikshank, Lewis Carroll and Tenniel, Edward Lear, Thackeray, Ardizzone, Andrew Lang, Newberry and Caldecott.
