James Earl Carter Jr. (1924 - 2024) was the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. A Democrat, he previously served as a Georgia State Senator from 1963 to 1967; then as the 76th Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975.

During his post-presidency, Carter remained active in public life. In 2002 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in co-founding the Carter Center.

Eleanor Rosalynn Carter (née Smith; 1927 - 2023) was First Lady of Georgia; then First Lady of the United States from 1977 to 1981, as the wife of President Jimmy Carter. For decades, she was a leading advocate for numerous causes and an eminent envoy around the world.
