Montague Francis Ashley-Montagu (1905 –1999), born Israel Ehrenberg, was a British-American anthropologist who popularized many topics such as race and gender; human evolution and development. He was the rapporteur, in 1950, for the UNESCO statement The Race Question. After relocating to the United States he used the name "Ashley Montagu," and became a naturalized American citizen.

He taught at Harvard, Princeton (his principal home), Rutgers, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and New York University. He also often appeared on television where his wit and charm were widely appreciated.

Gifted with an extraordinary memory and powers of synthesis, Ashley-Montagu wrote or edited more than sixty books. His works on Race, the Natural Superiority of Women (1953ff.), Man and Aggression (1968), The Elephant Man (1971), the importance of Touching (1978), and neoteny in Growing Young (1981) were pathfinding. In 1995, the American Humanist Association named him the Humanist of the Year.
