René / Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 – 1926) was a Bohemian-Austrian poet and novelist. He is "widely recognized as one of the most lyrically intense German-language poets." The Book of Hours translates portions of Rilke's Das Stundenbuch originally published in German via three booklets from 1899-1903.

Babette Deutsch (1895 – 1982) was an American poet, critic, translator, and novelist. Her translation was first published by New Directions in 1941.

VERY GOOD CONDITION overall with light chipping to the unclipped dust jacket's edges. Uncommon edition published soon after World War II. Clean tight copy with slight age-toning to paper and lightening of endpapers opposite dj flaps. Previous owner's gift inscription on front free endpaper. No internal marks or annotations.
