David Niven (1910 – 1983) was a British actor, memoirist, and novelist. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as Major Pollock in Separate Tables (1958). Other noted roles included Squadron Leader Peter Carter in A Matter of Life and Death (1946), Phileas Fogg in Around the World in 80 Days (1956), Sir Charles Lytton ("the Phantom") in The Pink Panther (1963), and James Bond in the early Casino Royale (1967).

Niven wrote four books: one quasi-autobiographical first novel; two highly-fictionalized memoirs of Hollywood, and this quite successful novel. It is set during and after the Second World War, and drew on his military experiences during the war and in Hollywood. He was working on a third novel at the time of his death.

SCARCE SIGNED & in NF/VG CONDITION internally & externally. Slight offset to Navy Blue endpapers caused by K&B bookmark having been laid in (a practice we definitely do not recommend, though having the bookmark is a further guarantee of authenticity). Some edgewear to the unclipped dust jacket with a couple of clean nicks mainly noticeable at the head and foot of the dj's spine. No previous owner or remainder markings.
