Roya Hakakian (born 1966) is an Iranian American Jewish poet, journalist, and writer. She takes on the most pressing contemporary sociopolitical issues —exile, persecution, censorship— and injects them with relevance and urgency through her deeply observant and poetic sensibility to make these subjects accessible to all readers.

This is a remarkably well written and documented recounting of the little known assassination of several Kurds by Saddam Hussein's men in 1992.
