Ernest Hemingway (1899 – 1961) was a Nobel Prize-winning American novelist, short story writer, and journalist. His economical style, life of adventure and public image have been very influential. The Old Man and the Sea is a Pulitzer Prize-winning short novel written by Hemingway in 1951 in Bimini, the Bahamas, and published in 1952. One of his most famous works, it tells the story of Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman who struggles with a giant marlin in the Gulf Stream off Cuba.
