Alfred Alexander Gordon Clark (1900 – 1958)--aka "Cyril Hare"- was an English judge and crime writer.

An English Murder was adapted by the author from the radio play Murder at Warbeck Hall. it combines aspects of classical Golden Age murder mystery – a group of guests in a snowed in country house named Warbeck Hall – with the auterity and dispossession of post-war Britain.

At the time of its reissue in 2017, The Sunday Times listed it as one of the best crime novels of the year. (The title of some US reprints is The Christmas Murder, 1953.) Faber also printed the book in 1951. One would normally expect it to be the First British Edition and have a degree of priority over the First American Edition. Note, though, that this copy states "First Edition"--(meaning First American Edition presumably).

UNCOMMON Title and imprint. Tight, clean copy. Attractive dust jacket (unclipped) has light soil (mainly apparent on the rear panel) and edgewear with losses evident at the head and foot of the dj's spine. No previous owner's marks.
