Alice O'Connor (born Alisa Rosenbaum; 1905 – 1982), better known by her pen name "Ayn Rand" was a Russian-born American writer and philosopher. She is known for her fiction and the philosophical system she named "Objectivism." Her writings supported ethical egoism and laissez-faire capitalism, which have politically influenced some libertarians and conservatives.

She achieved fame with her 1943 novel, The Fountainhead. This copy is an early reprint from the same year as the first 1943 edition with comparable dust jacket design and cloth.

The novel's protagonist, Howard Roark, is an intransigent young architect, who battles conventional standards and refuses to compromise with an architectural establishment unwilling to accept innovation. Roark embodies what Rand believed to be the ideal man, and his struggle reflects Rand's belief that individualism is superior to collectivism.

Tight, clean copy with uniform age-toning. The unclipped dust jacket is bright and quite clean though with edge- and some cover wear, peripheral chipping, and one large piece missing from the top of its spine. No statement on dj that it is either a "Book Club Edition" or "Sears Readers Club." No indication of the printing on stated 1943 copyright page. Page 9 has a small "o" not "9" as pagination at its bottom; line 5 on page 321 has "refrred." "Dominique" is misspelled on line 2 of page 480. No previous owner's or remainder markings.

Price: $70.00
