Illustrated with B&W scenes from MGM PHOTOPLAY starring Monte Blue and 'Raquel Torres. W.S. Van Dyke (director); Frederick O'Brien (novel); Jack Cunningham (screenwriter); Ray Doyle (adaptation).

Deals with exploitation of Polynesian pearl divers by white traders. Though copyright says 1919 by Garden City and indicates the author's initial book publication, the MGM movie was released later in 1928. This G&D edition doesn't reflect its printing which would have been when the film opened in 1928 or shortly thereafter. B&W glossy pictures at frontispiece, facing 108 & 109, 252 & 253, 396 & 397.

Frederick O'Brien (1869 – 1932) was an American author, journalist, hobo, peripatetic world traveler, and public administrator. He wrote three best-selling travel books about French Polynesia between 1919 and 1922: White Shadows in the South Seas, Mystic Isles of the South Seas, and Atolls of the Sun. The MGM movie was made in 1928 of White Shadows in the South Seas.

UNCOMMON TITLE. Tight, clean copy. Moderate uniform age-toning as is typical. Pages not brittle. Illustrations NOT FOXED. Dust jacket is unclipped with relatively light wear and half a dozen nicks (mainly visible along the top of the front panel).
