Cincinnati: Bangs and Company / Longley Brothers, 1856. Engravings. First Edition. Pictorial cloth. 12mo (7 5/8" x 5 1/4"), brown textured cloth with gilt lettering on spine, gilt figures (front having gilt; rear panel having lost its gilt); illustrated with several B&W engravings; endpapers gray (renewed); 332 pages. Very Good / None / Mylar added. Item #7494

SCARCE pre-Civil War volume that tries to convert pro-slavery Northerners via illustrated "parables" and to anti-slavery beliefs.

Darius Lyman (c.1821 - 1892) was a passionate anti-slavery Northerner (d. in Ohio).

Solid copy. Wear to cloth with a few ink stains on front cover; gilt on spine and front cover faded; rear cover has lost all gilt though the indentations of the figures can be detected. Moderate uniform age-toning, light spotting and occasional foxing, relatively clean engravings with surprisingly good definition. Endpapers renewed.
