Eva C. Keuls (born 1923) is Classics Professor at the University of Minnesota, the author of many scholarly articles, and a recognized authority on both Greek literature and vase painting. She is a fellow of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.

Reign of the Phallus has become a classic study of Ancient Greek sexual mores, the interrelationship between genital sexuality - politics - religion - art - culture and phallicism (mainly Athenian but not thereby limited). It is superbly documented with images from period Greek vases with sexual themes and related imagery. Professor Keuls' text is wonderfully erudite yet very accessible. The carryover from Ancient Greece to modern cultures is profound.
