Aldous Huxley (1894 – 1963) was an English writer, novelist, philosopher, and prominent member of the Huxley family.

The author of nearly fifty books, Huxley was best known for his novels (among them Brave New World, set in a dystopian future); for nonfiction works, such as The Doors of Perception, and for his wide-ranging essays. The first edition of his Essays New and Old appeared in 1926. This American edition appeared in 1958 and added essays from thirteen other books.

Huxley was widely acknowledged as one of the pre-eminent intellectuals of his time. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature seven times.

VERY GOOD tight, clean copy with light wear and fading to cloth. Dust jacket is unclipped with edgewear, losses to head and foot of spine, and a fingernail sized abraision at 4 o'clock on front panel. No remainder or previous owner's marks. Light uniform age-toning. Not ex library. No statement of "First Edition" or number line on copyright page, hence a nice early reprint. (see list on picture of rear flap of dj).
