Malcolm Cowley (1898 – 1989) was an American writer, editor, historian, poet, and literary critic. He was also a chronicler and fellow traveller of the Lost Generation, and an influential editor at Viking Press.

Bernard Smith (1916 – 2011) was an Australian art historian, art critic and academic, considered the founding father of Australian art history, and one of the country's most important thinkers.
