This is a detailed and illustrated exposition by Professor Eitner (Kansas' State) of Whitman's little known railway journey from Camden, N.J. to Colorado from September 10, 1879 to January 5, 1880. The brief trip served as the basis for Whitman's elaboration and self-promotion in Specimen Days.
