Gabriel García Márquez, (1927 - 2014), Colombian novelist and one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982.

Two of his best known novels are Cien años de soledad (1967; One Hundred Years of Solitude) and LOVE in the TIME of CHOLERA (El amor en los tiempos del cólera, 1985; first English translation published by Knopf in 1988). Both were infused with "magical realism."

Love in the Time of Cholera became a 2007 film directed by Mike Newell. it tells the story of a love triangle between a woman and her two suitors spanning 50 years from 1880 to 1930.
