Professor Michael Slater is a widely recognized expert on Dickens who has taught at taught at Birkbeck College for 36 years. His outstanding edition of Nicholas Nickleby (1973) led to advising the RSC's groundbreaking dramatisation of the novel in 1980. He has also edited of Dickens's voluminous journalistic writings and a completely new edition of Dickens' works. From 1958 to 1977, Michael Slater edited The Dickensian.
