Norman E. Hickin (born 1910 - ), a distinguished British entomologist and naturalist, has written more than a dozen important books on conservation, insect pests, and forests; among them: African Notebook: The Notes Of A Biologist In East Africa (1969), The Natural History of an English Forest: The Wild Life of Wyre (1971), Termites (1971), Bookworms (1985), and Animal Life of the Galapagos (1979).

It appears that he was an admirer (and--one supposes--likely friend) of famed naturalist-author Peter Matthiessen, who wrote The Tree Where Man Was Born, about Africa, one of many possible connections to Dr. Hickin.
