John Tracy Kidder (1945) is an American writer of nonfiction books. He has been strongly influenced by John McFee and is considered by many to be a "literary journalist." He received the Pulitzer Prize for his The Soul of a New Machine (1981), about the creation of a new computer at Data General Corporation. MY DETACHMENT (2005) is his memoir about when as a young man he was sent to Vietnam where his mission was to lead a detachment of eight men and listen to the enemy.
