Very Good. Item #369

Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811 - 1896), American author of Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852) and fervent abolitionist. Upon meeting the celebrated author, President Abraham Lincoln is said to have said: "so you are the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war." Overall, Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote 30 books including novels, three travel narratives, and numerous articles.

Clear inscription and signature in ink. Engraving is crisp black on lightly toned thin onion skin (slightly wrinkled). The engraving has been made from a period photograph. Verso shows tape holding image against matting.

Overall, the engraved leaf is 7 1/4" by ~ 4 3/4." We have purposefully not removed the delicate image from its mat. The leaf verso has traces of glue residue near its top and bottom perhaps from having once been in an album.
