Jules Verne (1828 – 1905) was a French novelist, poet, playwright, and world-recognized Grand Master of science fiction and adventure. His series Voyages extraordinaires, a widely popular series of scrupulously researched adventure novels, included Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873).
DR. OX and Other Stories was originally copyrighted by Arco Pubs in England during 1964. The title was adapted by I. O. Evans, editor-translator. Verne originally published the book as Le Docteur Ox; translated as Dr. Ox's Experiment. The Fitzroy Edition series consists mainly of Verne titles that have been adapted and reprinted in newly illustrated and editied editions for younger readers.
