Alexander Adam (1741 – 1809) was a Scottish teacher and expert classicist who greatly advanced the study of Roman antiquities. Among his pupils were Walter Scott and Francis Jeffrey.

19th Century quarter leather calf binding.. Sewing tight and very usable. One-inch of toning offset on endpapers caused by oxidation of leather binding. Second panel from top in maroon leather, gilt-stamped with title and author's name. Pages relatively bright though very slight browning to edges and occasional light foxing.
