Willard Price (1887 – 1983) was a Canadian-born, American traveller, journalist and author with a profound social conscience.
As a young man, he gained notoriety as a young Methodist leader and developed a taste for adventure on long trips during vacations. He also became painfully aware of depressed social conditions, and became "a social worker with a pen," writing many newspaper and magazine articles about slums, child labor conditions, and immigrants.
Subsequently, he travelled widely documenting such conditions, thereby visiting 148 countries. Such travels and adventures led him to write adult-non fiction and The Adventure Series for children and youngsters (from 1948) of which this SCARCE title is fifth and an iexciting example.
SCARCE title designed for youths who like to read and experience unusual adventures filled with excitement and danger. The book has several dynamic illustrations suggestive of Moby Dick (and Jack London's Sea Wolf).
Some soil and rubbing to the covers and a few spots along the fore-edges of the pages, though these don't affect the otherwise solid binding or text.
