The volume has a series of his double-spread illustrations as headings for thoughtful chapters on distinctive American moral characteristics--or "Spirits of": Respect, Hard Work, Frugality, Thankfulness, Pioneering, Godliness, Agronomy, Time, Independence, Awareness, and Hope.

Condition: Bright, tight, clean copy. The title page and page [53] have a relatively unobtrusive embossed and uninked circular ownership seal stating "D&B / Library of Don & Bettina Blair" (1 1/2" Diam.).
