E. Francis was a listed English female artist who exhibited in London in the beginning of the 20th century.
The verso of this drawing has another pen & ink finished drawing of a young boy outside a castle gate wearing a knight's costume and drawing his short sword, while an even younger girl in lady's gown and veiled headdress tries to hold his sword-arm back; with four stanzas beginning: "In days of prowess and of might...."; while a hawk in the upper left border looks down at the lad who is trying to protect a hen with two chicks; INITIALLED "E.F." by the Artist.
The word "safe" in the third stanza has been slightly reworked and is darker; the two small white mounting tabs at the top and bottom of the right side slightly intrude on the right margin, else fine.
