Moshe Rosenthalis (1922-2008) was a prominent and highly respected, widely exhibited, Israeli artist. Born in Lithuania, he was exposed to Socialist Realism during his youth and service in the Soviet Army during World War II, when he also created propaganda posters. He also study at the Academy of Art in Vilna. Not long after immigrating to Israel in 1958, he adopted a vibrant and colorful style that was allusive and abstract, evocative and impassioned. As Rosenthalis stated “to simplify forms one has to work harder, search, use the imagination, and involve one’s intellect and emotions.”
