The text is set in Scripps College Old Style, originally designed by Frederic W. Goudy. This digital version of the type was produced by Sumner Stone. The display face is Charlemagne, an Adobe type designed by Carol Twombly. Decorations were taken from traditional Japanese patterns.

This is the first edition by the Book Club of California of Colin Franklin’s beautiful study of Japanese books and scrolls as a distinct artform. Subjects include early Buddhist printing, woodcut illustrated books, hand scrolls, and woodcut printed maps.
